Artist Mick Abbott's watercolour exhibition Paradise and Other Places explores nature and culture, identity and memory, and it puts the spotlight on people and how a timeless richness of experience is captured in our expressions. The exhibition also includes references to religious art including treasures at Norwich Cathedral.

Paradise and Other Places will run from Wednesday 29 January until Thursday 20 February.

Artist's statement:

Although the exhibition contains lots of hopefully recognisable Norwich faces, it is much more about people than portraiture and how a timeless richness of experience is captured in our expressions. Whenever appropriate , I have compared the faces with examples of spiritual art.

Secondly, I have tried to blend modern day situations with religious art. There are interpretations from treasures within  this cathedral. Some whimsical such as misericords, some serious such as the Despenser Retable.

I would like to thank the local people who kindly agreed to be drawn.
