An exhibition in Norwich Cathedral Library, 9 – 30 September 2019

St Benet’s Abbey, Horning, was established with a gift of lands by King Cnut in 1019. Unlike other monastic foundations, St Benet’s was not dissolved in the 16th century, and today the Bishop of Norwich is still the Abbot of St Benet’s. Celebrating its 1000 year anniversary, an exhibition show-casing images of the site, along with a potted history, will be free to view in the library of Norwich Cathedral. Norfolk Archaeological Trust (NAT), who own and look after the site for everyone to visit, are also refreshing the guidebook as part of the 1000 year celebrations.

This exhibition and the new guidebook is supported by the Norfolk and Norwich Archaeological Society, The Worshipful Company of Dyers and the John Jarrold Trust.

Open with regular Library open hours (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 9.30am to 4.30); also Friday 13 September 2.00-3.30pm as part of Heritage Open Days.
