15. The Dean of Norwich (c) Bill Smith

The Dean of Norwich will be marking her 25th Anniversary of Ordination to the Priesthood at a Sung Eucharist at 3.30pm on Sunday 19 May celebrating the ministry of women in the Church.

The Dean was ordained Deaconess in 1980, Deacon in 1987 and Priest in 1994. She was the first woman to be appointed a Residentiary Canon in the Church of England, serving as Canon Pastor at Portsmouth Cathedral. In 2006 she became the first female Canon at Westminster Abbey, moving from there in 2014 to become the first female Dean of Norwich.

The Dean will be joined at the service by other women who were also ordained in 1994.

Bishop Stephen Platten, who worked alongside the Dean in the Portsmouth Diocese in the late 1980s, will be preaching.

Wine will be served afterwards in the Cloisters.

On this Sunday Matins will be sung in the morning at 10.30am in place of the Choral Eucharist.
