Group visits

Enjoy a day to remember at Norwich Cathedral by creating your own itinerary from our group visits menu.

Guided Tours

If you are visiting the Cathedral in a group and would like to take a tour, there are a number of options available to you. Please note that all of the tours listed below need to be booked in advance.

General Group Tours

These tours cover general topics, with some special subject focus available on request. Available Monday - Saturday on a fairly flexible basis, these tours last 60 - 90 minutes and cost £5.00 per person.

Themed Group Tours

Groups wanting a particularly focused tour can select from our menu of specialist themed topics:

  • The Close - An introduction to the history and buildings of England’s largest Cathedral Close.
  • Stained Glass Windows - A tour of the wonderful stained glass that adorns the Cathedral, which ranges for the medieval period to the present day.
  • Chapels and Chantries - Along side the main worship spaces, the Cathedral has a number of smaller chapels, each with their own story.
  • The Cloisters - One of the most complete features from the Middle Ages in England, the Cathedral Cloisters are the biggest of their kind in the country and feature elegantly carved stonework and medieval roof bosses.
  • Monuments and Sculptures - Explore some of the more interesting, surprising and unusual features of the Cathedral, including a selection of Roof Bosses illustrating some of the best-loved Bible stories.
  • Monastic Life at Norwich Cathedral - Learn about the Cathedral's first 450 years as a Benedictine Monastery and how the Rule of St Benedict continues to influence life here to this day.
  • Wood Carvings - Discover the Cathedral''s 15th-century oak choir stalls and misericords, which show a range of (often humorous) images from daily life.
  • Graffiti, Mason’s Marks and Guild Marks - We shed light on the stories behind the carvings and etchings that can be found on the Cathedral's interior walls.

Again, these tours are available Monday - Saturday on a fairly flexible basis, last 60 - 90 minutes and cost £5.00 per person.

Refreshments

As part of your visit the Refectory Cafe can provide your group with refreshments. Ranging from simple tea and biscuits (from £2.10 per head), to a tasty lunch (such as Quiche of the Day served with salad and new potatoes at £4.95 per head), right through to Afternoon Tea, served on vintage china, at £9.95 per head.

Gift Shop

The Cathedral Gift Shop offers a unique selection of locally sourced gifts and as part of the group visit experience there are a number of gift pack options available. One example is the Cathedral Gifts Pack with Mug, Fridge Magnet and Postcard included. Another is the Cathedral Foods Pack with Chocolate Chip Shortbread, Clotted Cream Fudge Bag, Fruit Preserve and Tea included. Both packs are available at £10 per head.

Evensong

Why not end your visit to Norwich Cathedral by joining us for Evensong sung by the Cathedral Choir. Evensong is one of the great treasures of the Church and has been sung daily for hundreds of years in the Cathedral, going right back to the time when this Cathedral church was at the heart of a Benedictine monastery. For more information about forthcoming services, please see our Worship, Services and Music Calendar.
