School visits to Dippy on Tour

We hope as many schools and academies as possible will come to visit Dippy on Tour at Norwich Cathedral!

The famous 26-metre long (85ft) dinosaur cast – which for many years took centre stage in the Natural History Museum’s Hinzte Hall before embarking on the current UK tour - will take up residence in Norwich Cathedral’s Nave from 13 July until 30 October 2021.

School groups can pre-book free 30-minute visits to see Dippy on Tour and booking in advance by email will be essential.

To book a visit for your school group, please email and state your preferred date and time.

Before your visit, you will receive pack with all the information you will need to know ahead of your visit.

On the day, your class will walk through a ‘time tunnel’ in the Cathedral’s cloisters before being given a short introduction to Dippy when they reach the Nave, where our prehistoric guest will be on display.

Pupils will be able to look at Dippy from a special viewing area in the Cathedral’s South Aisle, which will be separate from the public viewing area.

To minimise the contact between schools, bookings for the 30-minute sessions are being taken at 45-minute intervals. Classes from the same school may be admitted at consecutive 30-minute intervals subject to the school’s own risk assessment.

To help with social distancing, school groups are requested to be on time and not to arrive early.

You will be responsible for supervising the children in your group at all times.

Due to the large number of visitors expected while Dippy on Tour is at Norwich Cathedral, unfortunately it will not be possible for school groups to look around the rest of the building before or after their Dippy visit. However, other venues in the city may be hosting special dinosaur-inspired activities, so keep an eye on their websites to see what is on offer!

Dinosaur fans eager to know what to expect from Dippy’s visit can now find out more on a new Dippy microsite which is linked to this website.
