Norwich Cathedral is a great place to work and so we hope you’ll consider applying for a position with us.

This is a new full-time permanent post.

The Dean and Chapter are committed to the maintenance of its property portfolio and in reviewing the composition of its Works Team have decided to create this new full-time permanent post to ensure the ongoing high standard of decoration of its properties. The successful applicant will join the Cathedral Works Team which consists of a foreman, two full time carpenters, a bricklayer, and a maintenance labourer. Other trades are bought in to carry out electrical, gas, or plumbing works as required. The Works Team are based in the Cathedral Close. They maintain the 120 Close properties owned by the Chapter. There is a need to respect the existing fabric and carry out sympathetic, preferably traditional, repairs. Occasionally, repairs require planning consents or archaeological supervision, which requires a high standard of work.

Norwich Cathedral and its Close are an outstanding part of the religious and historical heritage of Norwich. The Close, being the largest monastic Close in England extending to some 44 acres, is of great architectural character and quality. Within its precinct walls there are five Grade I, 63 Grade II* and 12 Grade II listed buildings.
