Road closure near entrance to The Close

28 May 2021
Drivers travelling to the Cathedral from the north of the city should allow extra time for their journeys as Palace Street is currently closed to traffic to allow pavement improvement works to take place.

Norfolk County Council, which is carrying out the work, has said that Palace Street will be closed from the Maids Head Hotel to Bedding Lane from 24 May until 3 July. Cars may still access St Martin at Palace Plain and Bishopgate during this time.

To access the Cathedral grounds by car during this time, you will need to arrive via the King Street end of Tombland and enter the grounds via the Erpingham Gate. Pedestrians may access the Cathedral grounds by the Erpingham Gate or Ethelbert Gate.

To exit The Close, cars should use the Bishopgate gate while lorries should use the Erpingham Gate.

Please be careful of ongoing changes to road levels and pavements while this work is being carried out, and allow some extra time for travel.
