Public worship to be suspended

12 January 2021
Due to the ongoing situation with regard to the Coronavirus pandemic, public worship will be suspended at Norwich Cathedral until further notice. Please see below a statement from the Dean and Chapter.
Norwich Cathedral

Very reluctantly and with heavy hearts the Chapter have taken the decision to close down public worship for the short term future. We are very sorry to do this as we have felt that it’s been possible to worship in the Cathedral in a very safe way. However, following Prof. Chris Whitty’s advice that people really should stay at home, Chapter feels that to encourage people to leave home in order to gather for worship, goes against this advice.

The Cathedral will remain open for private prayer between 10am and 2pm Monday to Saturday and from 12pm until 2.30pm on Sundays. As soon as we can we will resume public services. In the meantime we will live stream the 10.30am Eucharist every Sunday and the residentiary clergy will maintain to daily rhythm of Morning and Evening Prayer and offering a daily Eucharist, holding the nation, the local community, the NHS and all of you in our prayers.

With our prayers and best wishes

The Dean and Chapter of Norwich Cathedral
