Ashley Grote, the Cathedral's Master of Music and who is conducting the concert, said: "Bach’s St John Passion is one of the most dramatic settings of the Passion story ever composed. Along with his St Matthew Passion and Mass in B minor it is one of his great choral masterpieces.

"For the boys and girls of the Cathedral Choir, it is a tremendous achievement to have mastered a piece of such complexity. They have been rehearsing hard all term and I am very excited about hearing them perform again alongside the excellent orchestral players of Norwich Baroque.

"It is also a great privilege to welcome soloists of international distinction to Norwich to sing the immensely beautiful solo movements of this great piece.

"I hope that people will want to come along to hear what promises to be a very moving performance at the start of Holy Week”.

The soloists include William Blake (Evangelist), Robert Rice (Christus), Cecilia Osmond (Soprano), Timothy Morgan (Counter tenor), Tom Raskin (Tenor) and Colin Campbell (Bass).
