Christians believe that God loves them and has shown this love in and through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Christianity began as a movement within Judaism. It focused on the acceptance of Jesus Christ as the Messiah, the one sent by God to save the world. Christians felt liberated from old restraints and able to worship God in a more direct and open manner, which was centred on a meal. When Christians commemorate the Last Supper that Jesus had with his disciples, they feel they have become part of him and see themselves as his living representatives in the world. Often they fail, but they believe in a God who is loving and forgiving and who enables them to forgive as they are forgiven.
Christians proclaim a faith revealed in the Bible and centred on prayer and fellowship. They believe in eternal life but understand it to begin in this life with the acceptance of Christ as friend and Saviour. This belief comes from an experience of God's sustaining presence and gives them strength. You may feel that presence of God in this Cathedral.
