The musicians of Norwich Cathedral uphold a tradition of choral worship that stretches back almost unbroken to 1096.
Under the leadership of Canon Jeremy Haselock (Precentor and Vice-Dean), the Music Department comprises:
- Ashley Grote, Master of Music
- David Dunnett, Organist
- Jonathan Stamp, Organ Scholar
- Kristina Bartlette, Liturgy and Music Administrator
- 20 Boy Choristers
- 22 Girl Choristers
- 6 Lay Clerks
- 6 Choral Scholars
- 50 adult members of the Cathedral Chamber Choir
The core of the musicians’ work is to provide the highest standard of music for the daily worship that takes place in the Cathedral. The choral repertoire for these services ranges from plainchant and masterpieces of the renaissance, right through to premières of music by contemporary composers.
As part of its commitment to education, the Cathedral offers the opportunity for both boys and girls to sing in the Cathedral Choirs, choral and organ scholarships for student, gap-year and post-graduate musicians, and welcomes experienced amateur singers to join its Chamber Choir.
Norwich Cathedral also welcomes large numbers of visitors throughout the year to its thriving programme of organ recitals and concerts. The Cathedral Choirs also give concerts across the Diocese of Norwich, as well as further afield.
