Will Kemp and the Nine Daies Wonder

A talk by Jonathan Hooton, former chair of Norwich Society, on Thursday 16 June at 2.30pm in the Weston Room.

A crazy escapade – Morris dancing from London to Norwich – but it is still talked about and emulated over 400 years later. What is the appeal of Kemp’s exploit? Why did he do it? How did he do it? And who was Kemp anyway and what was his connection with Shakespeare? This lecture by Jonathan Hooton will attempt to answer some of these questions and others. Jonathan has been dancing the Morris for over 40 years for various sides in London and Norwich. He first became interested in Will Kemp in 1977 when he organised the re-enactment of Kemp’s dance by the Morris Clubs of London to celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. It is then that he met Chris Harris and taught him to dance for his one man show – Kemp’s Jig.

Tickets are £6 for Friends of Norwich Cathedral and £9 for non-members.
