Bishop's Enthronement

09 November 2019
14:00 - 15:00
9. Bishop of Norwich (c) Diocese of Norwich
On Saturday 9 November we look forward to officially welcoming the Rt Revd Graham Usher when he is enthroned as the 72nd Bishop of Norwich in a special symbolic ceremony at Norwich Cathedral.

More than 1,800 invited guests are expected to attend the event that will see the Bishop formally seated for the first time on the ancient throne at the east end of the Cathedral.

The enthronement marks the beginning of Bishop Graham’s public ministry in the Diocese of Norwich, and those who have been invited to attend include licensed clergy and lay ministers, local volunteers, charities, schools, civic leaders and organisations.

Due to the large numbers of people expected to attend the occasion, admission to the enthronement service at the Cathedral is by ticket only.

The Cathedral and Hostry will be closed to general visitors for most of the day on Saturday 9 November but the Cloisters, Refectory and Close will be open as normal.

To ensure as many people as possible can welcome the new Bishop, four more services of welcome will be taking place across the Diocese and each of these services will incorporate elements from the Cathedral service along with locally organised worship.

The following four services are open to all and there is no need to book in advance:
Monday 18 November, 7pm - Great Yarmouth Minster
Sunday 24 November, 4pm - St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Cromer
Monday 25 November, 7pm - St Cuthbert's Church, Thetford
Wednesday 27 November, 7pm - King's Lynn Minster

In the run up to Christmas, we also look forward to Bishop Graham joining us for the following services at the Cathedral to which all are welcome:
Sunday 1 December, 6pm - Candlelit Advent Procession
Friday 6 December, 5.30pm - St Nicholas Day Evensong
Sunday 22 December, 6pm - Christmas Procession with Carols
