14 October 2017
10:00 - 16:30
A picture of the Bishop

A day for everyone across the Diocese to come together and be inspired about mission, explore different styles of prayer, take part in music workshops and perform in a scratch choir. Plus, there will be special activities for children and young people.

The day is free to attend and no booking is required - just come along on the day and please bring others with you from your parish, benefice or community. It is an event for people of all ages.

About the day

The keynote speaker is Mark Russell, Chief Executive of Church Army. He is one of the most inspirational (and humorous) speakers and preachers in the Church today.

The Cathedral will be divided into four ‘zones’, each dedicated to one of the elements of our diocesan mission strategy. Each zone will have workshops, prayer stations, bible studies led by the Bishops, activities and resources for mission. The Horstead Centre staff and Cathedral education team will lead activities for children and young people throughout the day.

The programme is as follows:

  • 10.00: Opening Worship led by the Dean
  • 10.15: Zones/workshops open
  • Choose your activity: a full and detailed programme will be available on the day
  • 11.15: Keynote Address by Mark Russell
  • 12.00: Midday Office
  • 12.10: Lunch break (please bring your own picnic or food is available from the Cathedral Refectory)
  • 13.00: Zones/workshops open (as in the morning – there will be a lot to do)
  • 15.00: Gathering on Upper Green of the Close, where one or more church music groups from the Diocese will be playing
  • 15.20: We assemble and move into the Cathedral for the 15.30 Eucharist. Preacher: Mark Russell. Featuring music and contributions from the zones/workshops and concluding with the distribution of prayer beads, a gift from the Archbishop of York to everyone present to help us in our prayers for God’s mission in the world.
