Bach's Mass in B Minor

12 November 2016
19:30 - 21:00
A picture of the Norwich Cathedral Chamber Choir
It was his last great composition - and in fact was never performed in its entirety during his lifetime - but Bach's monumental Mass in B minor will be performed this November by Norwich Cathedral Chamber Choir accompanied by leading period instrument ensemble Norwich Baroque. The Cathedral's Master of Music, Ashley Grote, will direct the work with an outstanding cast of soloists comprising Cecilia Osmond (Soprano), Ashley Harries (Counter tenor), Daniel Bartlette (tenor) and Dhilan Gnanadurai (bass).

Finished in 1749 just one year before Bach's death, the work is a complete setting of the Latin Mass, for which Bach not only composed new material but also re-worked some of his finest choral music from earlier compositions. Considered by many to be the pinnacle of Bach's choral writing, the work captures the complete expressive and emotional range of Bach's output, with moments of expressive beauty interwoven with movements of joyful exuberance, accompanied by the thrilling sound of trumpets and drums.  In the splendid and uplifting setting of Norwich Cathedral this is a performance not to be missed.
Tickets £20, £16, £12 and £5 (for under 18s sitting in the side aisles).
