"…witty and imaginative sculpture celebrating the female form."
The Spectator magazine

"…a crouching figure leans forward to encircle a small standing body in her arms. It is a world apart, a full stop: a portrayal of an intimacy so strong that you catch your breath."
Telegraph Magazine

The exhibition mainly featured mothers and children and Vanessa's work and this exhibition were covered in depth in a recent article in the EDP Norfolk Magazine.

There were some 25 works on display, all available for purchase.

Vanessa has for some years enjoyed creating pieces portraying mothers and children.  There were several in this exhibition including Multi-Mummy, a female form so covered in children that you can hardly see her, and hugging figures Blissey and Snubble.  "These are names from Pokemon - I wanted some of the sculptures to be relevant to my children", she explains.

The exhibition also included examples of a new direction Vanessa is taking featuring angels.  One example linking the environment and angels and called Eco Angel was inspired by the faces of figures from the roof of Norwich Cathedral.

Vanessa is a Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors.  For more information about Vanessa's work please see her website.

About Vanessa Pooley FRBS

Vanessa grew up in Norwich, attending the Hewett School and later the Norwich Art College.  She later studied in London, at one time working from a studio on the Old Kent Road also used by Tracey Emin, Mark Wallinger and Mark Francis.

She displayed a love of art from an early age.  "Looking back, I can see the path that led me to be a bronze sculptor. I’ve always been intrigued by shape of the female body. I remember at nursery doing drawings of female figures, or rather girls, again and again and again."

Vanessa now enjoys a national reputation selling pieces to the likes of actress Emma Thompson.
