Links 10.45am, 12.30pm and 2.15pm. These tours last approximately one hour and begin in the Nave. Tours are free, but a donation is appreciated. Daily fixed tours may not run if the Cathedral is in use for another occasion which prohibits them. However, Guides will be on duty Monday-Saturday to answer questions and offer interpretation.

MEDIEVAL MYSTERIES TOURS Find out about life in the Middle Ages Learn about medieval man's religious beliefs, his regard for nature and his sense of humour with the aid of beasts, monsters and sinners so splendidly depicted in the medieval misericords and Roof Bosses of Norwich Cathedral We will set the scene by explaining the significance of imagery in the middle ages to the common man and monk. Medieval imagery is usually loaded with hidden meanings that can be lost on us today. This tour will unpick these mysteries and reveal the level of their sophistication to the modern viewer For bookings and information Contact: The Visitors' Officer Tel: 01603 218 306 Tours are £4 per person Misericord or "Mercy seat", from Latin meaning "pity me" A Misericord is a tip-up pew seat or choir stall with a carved shelf for resting the monks' posteriors during frequent and long services Roof Boss - Carved keystones within the vaults of the Cathedral roof. The word 'boss' derives from the Norman French word for 'lump' or 'knob' of stone. The Norwich Cathedral Roof Bosses are an unrivalled collection of medieval roof sculptures that depict the Bible stories from Genesis to Revelation.
