Guild volunteers at work

Norwich Cathedral Broderers’ Guild was established in order to serve the Diocese and support the work on textiles within the Cathedral.

We offer a professional standard of service using highly skilled and qualified volunteers under the direction of workshop supervisor Helen Jenkins.

Expertise is offered in all areas of ecclesiastical work including advice and referral for conservation, restoration, repairs and alterations to existing ecclesiastical work, and the design and provision of new altar frontals and vestments.

A charge is made for all work undertaken at the workshop and will vary according to the nature of the work and the costs involved.

Traditionally, the Broderers’ Guild holds an Open Day in the workshop. Textile treasures from the C16th onwards, including the Birkbeck copes, Vice-Dean's cope, Corporation Stalls cushions and frontals from the Cathedral are exhibited. This is the opportunity for members of the public to see the Guild at work, as the workshop is not otherwise open for tours or for browsing.

This year, an exhibition of textile treasures from the Cathedral's collection, with practical demonstrations by the Broderers' Guild, will take place from Friday 25 July to Saturday 2 August.

From 3 September 2008 the Broderers' Guild will work on Wednesdays and Fridays,
10 am - 4pm.

The Broderers’ Guild workshop is situated on the first floor above the Priors’ Hall at:
56b The Close, Norwich.
