The Music Department is once again opening the musical doors of the Cathedral to some 250 local primary school children.
The outreach programme is a partnership between the Cathedral, Norfolk County Music Service, Norwich School and St John's Roman Catholic Cathedral and once again has been successful in its bid for Government funding (part of Sing Up, the Music Manifesto National Singing Programme).
This year, the programme is tailored to the specific needs of the eight primary schools chosen to take part.
Five animateurs visit the schools focusing on mentoring the teacher primarily responsible for singing. The Cathedral Choristers also visit these schools to perform for the children, mainly Years 5 and 6, and sing with them. The children then spend an afternoon in Norwich Cathedral singing and learning about the cultural life of a modern cathedral.
David Lowe, Master of the Music, is leading several workshops with teachers to develop their confidence in their own voice production and how best to achieve lasting results. The Choral Scholars also take part as trainee singing leaders.
Norwich Young Voices, established in April 2009, continues for singers aged 7-11 providing vocal and musical education as well as performing opportunities.
Concert on Monday 5th July at 6.30pm
Children from local primary schools who have participated in the Cathedral's "Chorister Outreach Programme" during June will be performing in a concert with the boys and men of the Cathedral choir.
Admission is free with retiring collection towards the costs of the project.
All are welcome.
