Introduction

Introduction

If you are a school pupil or student, these pages will be perfect for you! You will find information about this 900 year old Norman building, the beautiful objects inside it and many topics that fit in with your National Curriculum studies.

Topics covered in this section

The menu lists the topics covered in this section. You can unlock the meanings of Christian symbols found in the Cathedral. You can discover how the Normans built this great Cathedral and learn about the monks who lived here. You can learn how fire and natural disasters nearly destroyed the Cathedral and how its future looked very bleak when Henry VIII closed down the Cathedral monastery in 1538 and the Puritans attacked the Cathedral in 1643.

You can also look at some of the wonderful works of art and architecture here at the Cathedral - you will be amazed at the different stories, characters and mysteries that speak to us through the centuries! Just click on a topic and begin.

Other fun things to do on this website

This section of the website is designed especially for you, but there are lots of other pages that you will find interesting. In particular, the History and Heritage section gives lots more detail than is possible here.

  • Have a look at the Cathedral photographed from unusual angles on our Gallery page.
  • Take a virtual tour.
  • Explore our timeline.
  • Do you love singing? Have you ever thought of auditioning to join one of the Cathedral choirs?

Of course the best way to experience the Cathedral is to come and see for yourself. Persuade your teachers or parents to bring you!

We hope to see you here soon.
