Introduction

Introduction

Norwich Cathedral Library is open for everyone to use free of charge. We house a modern theology loan collection of around 20,000 volumes covering subjects including biblical studies, pastoral theology, ethics, liturgy and church history; about twenty journals complement the book collection. The historic collection (the Dean & Chapter’s Library) has items dating from 1474 and includes theology, literature, music, history (particularly local history) and architecture.

Reading Room

The reading room offers a quiet study space combining an historic setting with modern facilities.  It was built at the same time as the Cathedral Refectory. Designed by Sir Michael Hopkins, medieval architectural wall fragments have been completed and reroofed to provide a reading room, with study space for ten people, and reception area. The library also occupies part of the upper east range of the Cloister.
