Archives

Norwich Cathedral Archives are deposited at the Norfolk Record Office.

Records of both the pre-Reformation Benedictine priory, and of the post-Reformation Dean & Chapter (Norwich Cathedral) are cared for and made available to researchers at the Norfolk Record Office.

The monastic archives include deeds of title (the monastery was a significant landowner), and obedientiary rolls (the income and expenditure accounts of the various monastic officials). After the Reformation, the principal records are the Cathedral statutes, chapter act books, and accounts.

The archives are fully catalogued on the online catalogue of the Norfolk Record Office. A printed Guide to the Records of Norwich Cathedral is also available, either from the Norfolk Record Office or from Norwich Cathedral Library. All enquiries relating to the archives should be directed to the Norfolk Record Office (01603 222599).

The Cathedral does not hold any Diocesan records; these are also deposited at the Norfolk Record Office.
