We have compiled answers to the questions we are most frequently asked about booking procedure.
We ask all school groups to book their visit in advance. If we know you are coming we can warn you of any unexpected closures, special services or any other factor that might affect your visit.
Whichever type of visit you are planning please help us to help you by making it clear when booking what you want your students to gain from the visit so that we can support your aims. Please contact Juliet Corbett, our Schools Officer (01603 218320) or for your convenience you can now speed up the booking process by booking online.
Once we have confirmed the type of programme and the date with you, we will email you the details. A letter of confirmation, an information and guidance leaflet and invoice will follow.
We advise booking at least two months in advance and ideally a term in advance, particularly if you have a specific date in mind. We have to limit the number of large groups visiting the Cathedral on any one day to ensure that all visitors have the opportunity to move freely around the building.
School groups and other educational groups can visit on Monday to Friday from 10.00am to 4.00pm (when preparations for Evensong begin) subject to special services and events; Saturday and Sunday are also possible by arrangement.
The charge for self-guided school groups is £1 per pupil, with teachers and helpers free.
If you choose to book a Part Day Tour the cost varies from £2.50 - £3.50 per pupil.
For costs of day programmes click KS1 and KS2, or KS2 and KS3, or Part Day Tours.
Our outreach days, ‘Norwich Cathedral on the Road’ cost £75 for half a day or £150 for a whole day.
Our education trails cost £1.50 with a special discount rate for larger groups.
There are special arrangements for language schools.
We will send you an invoice about one month prior to your visit. Please bring your cheque/cash for the full amount on the day (cheque made payable to Norwich Cathedral). We regret we are unable to reimburse schools for any pupils absent on the day and would ask you to pay the full amount as stated on the invoice.
The maximum size for a guided tour is 25 pupils. We welcome larger groups but would ask that they be divided into groups of 25 or less. The classroom can seat a maximum of 35 pupils.
We can also provide a day-long carousel of activities for school parties of up to 150 pupils.
Guided tours of the Cathedral last approximately one hour. Workshops and activities differ in length.
We welcome students of all ages with a range of special needs – physical, learning, emotional, sensory. Please alert us when you book and we will discuss with you how we can make appropriate preparations. We can provide parking within the Close for wheelchair users. The Cathedral is a medieval building but we do all that we can to make it accessible.
