Leaving a Legacy to Norwich Cathedral

Leaving a Legacy to Norwich Cathedral

Why leave a legacy?

If Norwich Cathedral and what it represents are important to you, please consider helping us by:

  • including the Cathedral in your Will or
  • adding a Codicil to an existing Will.

Your generosity will help ensure that future generations also get the chance to appreciate all that Norwich Cathedral has to offer.

Anyone can include the Cathedral in their Will and the legacy does not have to be for a lot of money.

Some people leave us gifts of specified sums of money; others leave us the residue of their estate once family and friends have been looked after. But your gift counts whether you give £10, £100, £1,000 or £10,000.

You may also be interested to hear that leaving a gift to a charity like Norwich Cathedral is exempt from Inheritance Tax. So you can choose either to pay tax to the Inland Revenue or for that money to go to this worthy cause.

How to include Norwich Cathedral in your Will

Making a Will to include Norwich Cathedral need not be complicated or expensive.

It is hard to predict now what the Cathedral’s most pressing financial needs will be next year, let alone twenty-five years from now. So it really helps us if you leave a legacy for the Cathedral’s general purposes. This means we can use your gift where it is most needed.

There are several different kinds of legacy that you might like to consider. You can:

  • donate a specified sum of money or a proportion of your estate,
  • donate one or more specific items that you own, or
  • if you have already made your Will but now wish to include Norwich Cathedral, you can add a Codicil (a separate document that makes changes or additions to an existing Will.)

We can supply more detailed information and are always happy to answer any questions you may have. But if you are thinking of making a Will or adding a Codicil we would also advise you to consult your professional adviser about your particular circumstances.
