Community Outreach

  • The Cathedral Community Committee

    The Cathedral Community Committee meets five times a year, including the AGM. The role of this elected group is to represent the views of regular worshippers and volunteers to the Dean and Chapter and consider the contribution that the community might make to the wider requirements of the diocese and beyond.

    The Committee comprises twelve members, three of whom are also members of the Cathedral Council. All members must be on the Cathedral roll. Members are elected to serve for three years and are then eligible to stand for a further three year period.

    Three members retire annually so there is regularly scope for new members.

    To ensure that all areas of the community are represented we welcome candidates from across the life of the Cathedral, for example choir parents, Sunday school parents and those who attend services during the week as well as on Sundays.

  • Group for Social Concerns

    The aims of this group are to

    • inform and update the Cathedral community on the activities and needs of local charities,
    • support Christian Aid and Fair-trade and,
    • keep the Cathedral community informed about projects at home and overseas in which members of the congregation are personally involved.

    Volunteers can help in two different ways:

    • new members of the planning committee are always welcome and
    • we do need the Cathedral community to support our speakers’ evenings and fair-trade promotions.

  • Cathedral International Links

    This group was formed in 1996 to establish links with Christians in different countries and of different traditions. Through friendship and exchange visits we all benefit from dialogue, joint activity, and, where appropriate, practical assistance.

    Volunteers can help in two different ways:

    • there is a small planning group which would welcome new members prepared to give the project some time; anyone interested should contact the Dean’s Office (01603 218300);
    • we also need people who are willing to offer hospitality, a meal or transport during exchange visits or who would like to be part of a group visit abroad.
