Community Committee

What is the Cathedral Community Committee?

The Community Committee is the elected group which represents the views of regular worshippers, and volunteers to the Dean and Chapter and considers the contribution that the community might make to the wider requirements of the diocese and beyond. The Committee has sub-groups on which elected members and others interested in the subject can be asked to serve. The sub-groups include Events, Social Concern, Alms, International Links, Norwich Central Churches Together and Inter-Faith Network.

Who sits on the Community Committee?

The elected group is made up of three people who have been elected to serve on the Cathedral Council and nine people elected at the AGM to serve for a period of three years. The Dean and two Residentiary Canons are also members of the Committee. The Chairman is chosen from the elected members. The present Chairman is Michael Sargisson who can be contacted via the Cathedral Office.

What does the Community Committee do?

The Community Council meets around four times a year to debate issues raised by community members and respond on behalf of the community to questions raised by the Dean and Chapter.
Formal minutes are taken and copies can be obtained via the Cathedral Office.

Once a year the Community Committee holds an Annual General Meeting at which all members of the community are welcome. At the Annual General Meeting the Dean gives an overview of the past year in the life of the Cathedral. There is a report from Chapter on its work and the annual accounts of the previous year are presented. The elections to the Cathedral Council and the Community Committee also take place.
