It costs over £4,000 a day to run Norwich Cathedral
We are proud that Norwich Cathedral is free to enter and are committed to ensuring it stays this way. However, because of the high everyday running costs, it means that we have to generate income in other ways.
The hiring of our hospitality facilities, daily trade in Refectory café and gift shop purchases all help towards meeting this need, but we are also reliant on the generosity of those who feel that they are able to offer a donation.
Donations can be offered in the Cathedral itself, but if you’re also minded to consider leaving a legacy gift to the Cathedral then you’ll find some further information included in this short video and here.
As well as generating the income to preserve the Cathedral, we continue to raise funds for major development projects. Most recently our efforts have been focused on the Lighting Project, which required £1.8 million to deliver new lighting across the Cathedral in three phases. We are now in phase three.
‘From Darkness to Light’
We are investing in new technology to light the interior of one of the largest and best preserved Cathedrals in England.
The benefits will be:
- Economic - lowering our core costs through the installation and use of new technology
- Social - improving and protecting access to our precious and important heritage items and interiors
- Environmental - reducing our carbon footprint for future generations
Thank you to all who are supporting the ongoing delivery of this initiative.
Our other priorities for the coming years include:
