New Jarrold partnership announced

The Dean and Chapter of Norwich Cathedral have announced a new partnership with Jarrold for their Refectory Café. The appointment of Jarrold comes after a thorough and rigorous tender process, which saw the established Norwich business competing with national names in the catering industry.
New Refectory partnership

Jarrold will take over the management of the Refectory Café including all staff transferring to being Jarrold employees with effect from September 16.

As well as being a very successful retail operation, which has bucked the trend in the high street with increased sales, Jarrold has built up a strong customer following for the food departments it currently runs in the city centre store.

The Dean and Chapter made the decision to outsource the management of the Refectory Café some months ago and appointed a leading catering consultant in the industry, Chris Brown from Turpin Smale to oversee every aspect of the tender process.

The Dean of Norwich, the Very Revd Jane Hedges said: “The catering sector these days is a very competitive one and we recognised the need to appoint experts in the field to manage the Refectory Café and to take it forward in its future development.  This is a route taken by many cathedrals across the country that want to offer hospitality as part of their ministry but do not always have the expertise in house.  We have a very busy year in 2020 as we welcome Dippy, the Natural History Museum’s iconic dinosaur cast, to Norwich from July to October so it was important to have the new management team in place in good time.  We look forward to working with Jarrold who have such strong links with local suppliers in the county.”

John Adams, Jarrold Trading & Marketing Director said: ‘’Jarrold are delighted to be working with Norwich Cathedral in this exciting new partnership. It is brilliant to keep it local and we are very proud to be in partnership with Norwich Cathedral. This opportunity supports our vision and the importance of food & beverage and hospitality in our business. It is also great timing ahead of a super busy year next year at the Cathedral and Jarrold celebrating its 250th anniversary.’’
