Diocese Photography Competition

02 March 2017
The Diocese of Norwich is inviting entries to its 'Capturing the Church in Norfolk' photography competition, which challenges you to capture what you think represents the church 'in action'. This is a great competition for budding and enthusiastic photographers who want to get their work noticed by a wide range of people. So get your camera out and start snapping!

This competition is about putting your creative photography skills to the test by capturing what you think is the church in action.

Examples could be perhaps:

- a local parent and toddler group or coffee morning
- a prayer station in a local primary school
- a church group that go out into the community to serve their community
- a church building extension which blends old and new architecture

Your photos could be inside a church building, outside a church or not by a church building at all! What you do need to show in each picture is how the local church, whether as a building or a group of people, is serving the local community.

Entering the competition

The competition is open to everyone and entering is simple. Once you have taken your photos, you can upload them via the online form.

Entries can be submitted into two age categories: 16 and under, and 17 and over.

Shortlisted photos tour

The twelve shortlisted photos will tour Norfolk, starting at the Royal Norfolk Show at the end of June and then make week long stops at five churches:

The Royal Norfolk Show, 28 - 29 June
King’s Lynn Minster, 30 - 7 July
Comer Parish Church, 7 - 14 July
Great Yarmouth Minster, 14 - 21 July
St Stephens, Norwich, 21 - 28 July
Wymondham Abbey, 28 July - 13 August
At each stop, people can vote for their favourite photograph and the winners will be decided by a panel of judges and the public vote.

Winners and prizes

The two winners from each category will be announced and prizes awarded at a special award ceremony at Wymondham Abbey at the end of Norfolk Open Churches Week (5-13 August) on Sunday 13 August.

The winning photographer in each category will receive a trophy and:
