Norwich Cathedral’s Choir has recently received a big boost after a generous donation made by the Friends of Cathedral Music.

The Choir Endowment Fund, which supports scholarships and bursaries for choristers at the Cathedral, was allocated £30,000 in a record breaking series of grants for British Cathedral which totalled nearly £300,000.

A cheque presentation was made by Timothy Rogerson, Treasurer of the Friends of Cathedral Music, after Evensong at Norwich Cathedral on Sunday 20 September. The Dean of Norwich, The Very Revd Jane Hedges, was on hand to gratefully accept on behalf of the Cathedral.

The Friends of Cathedral Music was established in 1956 with its purpose being:

  • To safeguard our priceless heritage of cathedral music and support a living tradition
  • To increase public knowledge and appreciation of that heritage and tradition
  • To encourage high standards in choral and organ music
  • To raise money by subscriptions, donations and legacies for choirs in need

The Dean and Chapter and the trustees of the Choir Endowment Fund were delighted to welcome local regional members to Evensong and are most grateful to the Friends of Cathedral Music for their continuing generous support.
